Your First Contract Is With Your Realtor

When it’s time to buy or sell a house, it’s easy to focus on the big deal that will come at the end of the process.  It’s easy to overlook the first contract you sign, with your realtor.  Particularly if you are a seller, it’s critical to have terms that are clearly understood and to your liking, before you enter into a formal agreement.

For starters, plan on seeing at least three prospects.  Candidates should be willing to come see you, look over your property, demonstrate some familiarity with your area, be prepared to specifically discuss successes they’ve had with similar homes and show you the type of marketing plan they’ll undertake to sell your home.  After you’ve had a good preliminary visit, arrange for a follow-up meeting.  Ask them what price they recommend for your home and find out how they arrived at it.  Make sure you understand how they will be making prospects and fellow realtors aware of your listing.  Don’t rush into a relationship with agent who proposes the highest asking price, unless you are satisfied with their logic behind it.  For more information and a list of helpful questions to ask prospects, visit TrustyGuides.com here.
